Last Day

On my morning news show I have a little 45 second segment called "Jump on Today." It runs each half hour and includes 3 quick little updates of things that are happening that day. Well, today I'm going to do that for you - accept instead of a Jump on the Day's News... you'll get a Last Day Update.

Here's a look at what I'm quitting ending today:
- The summer challenge. The last several weeks were quick and mostly painless - with me keeping nearly all of my goals *nearly all of the time. My list of achievements include losing 10.2 pounds, binging less than five times, and of course starting my marathon training.
- Intuitive Eating. It's a nice idea, but too early for me. I still want to lose a good 15 pounds and I don't think I can do it with Intuitive Eating. Last week I lost only .2 pounds which was disappointing during a week of intense exercise and my first week of I.E. Will re-visit when I'm at the maintaining stage.
- Obsessively Weighing Myself.  The scale is not my friend - and I need to stop making hourly play-dates with it.  Seriously, I know pooping makes me weigh less, eating makes me weigh more, and sleeping can go either way - so why am I still weighing myself after each thing I do?  My hubby will get the special operations assignment today to hide the scale.

Now on to something I won't be quitting - the marathon!  Last time I told you about my training it was a pretty depressing 'shoulda, woulda, coulda' post about giving up mid-run.

Now, I'm running with more strength than ever.  This morning I did a 3 mile run (for the second time!).  I honestly didn't know if I could do it after my first attempt to run 2 miles.  Who knew 2 miles could soon be a sinch?!  Well, take that word "sinch" loosely.  It's still tough, but I push through it.  On Wednesday I have my longest run yet - 3.5 miles.  I'll tell you how it goes.  Oh - and I posted an update about the marathon on my personal facebook account - now all my friends know.  There's no turning back now!

I think it sounds like you are making great progress in so many ways:) Good for you!

Danielle

Congrats!
My mom walked a half-marathon last year. I remember how proud she was as she shaved time off each and every week she trained and how amazing she felt when she completed it after working so hard for months. You can do it and you're going to be on top of the world when you cross that finish line. :)

Way to go! You are very brave doing this - certainly braver than me! I found similar problems with intuitive eating; I function best when I've strict rules to follow. You're doing great though, and congratulations on losing 10.2lbs over the summer challenge.

Karen - thanks! It's nice to think someone thinks I'm progressing... when I so often feel like I'm not!

Danielle - that is awesome your mom walked a half-marathon. I hadn't even considered how great it's going to feel to complete it.. thanks, I have something new to look forward to!

Cesca - thanks for stopping by my blog. Intuitive eating is hard because it seems like I was listening to my body.... but I kept choosing sugar to fill my hunger :) Oops!

Be careful with your calorie intake. As we exercise more we tend to eat more. Be vigilant. My suggestion is to eat volumetrically. That means low calorie / high volume foods in case you didn't know. That way you will feel satisfied without too many calories.

I definitely agree that IE is not the quick way to weight loss - for me it's an ideal for maintenance, but I have a lot of doubts I can lose if that's my only strategy. I'm just a dabbler in it myself...

Also, I wanted to let you know that I will publish a post tomorrow giving you an award!

Dr. J - thanks for the tip. I need to be careful about what I'm eating because I'm hungry all the time!!

Sarah - thanks in advance for the award! That is so nice of you!! Also, I think I can make good food choices on the principles of IE, but I definitely want to make sure I'm staying within my calorie range!

Looks like you are doing great! I like how you are evaluating what is working and what isn't, and moving on.

I think intuitive eating is about learning to trust yourself. I have been a calorie/fat/point counter for the last 20 years --- this summer I wanted to try intuitive eating and I realized that my block was that I didn't trust myself to be able to do that. Despite that I wanted to give it a whirl. Since June 1st I am down 15 pounds --- all eating what my body needs (not necessarily what I think would taste good in that moment.) I have learned that I can trust myself -- and to trust to know if I need to try something else as well.

Great job on the fitness goals!

Danielle

From everything she's said, it's one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.

PS: You've got an award. ;)
